Under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud – may God protect him – the city of Riyadh will host the “Arabic Language in International Organizations” conference organized by the King Salman International Complex for the Arabic Language in the first half of the year 2022.
His Highness Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman International Complex for the Arabic Language, thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Highness the Crown Prince – may God preserve them – for their sincere efforts in supporting the Arabic language, serving it, and enhancing its cultural presence. And its civilized interaction internationally, noting that the generous sponsorship of the conference confirms the essential role of the King Salman International Complex for the Arabic Language, the prominent position of the Kingdom in international organizations, and the strengthening of the qualitative presence of our dear country in the field of serving the Arabic language and its leadership at the international level, supporting its work mechanisms, and responding to its needs and aspirations and the culmination of its qualitative achievements.
Dr. Al-Washmi pointed out that the conference aims to identify the efforts of international organizations in the linguistic field and benefit from the various experiences to support the Arabic language, explore the reality of Arabic and the most prominent obstacles and needs to empower it and support its presence in those organizations, in addition to coordinating and complementing efforts in the service of the Arabic language and providing initiatives and projects to serve in international organizations.
The announcement of the royal sponsorship of the conference coincides with the International Day of the Arabic Language, which was set by the United Nations General Assembly on the eighteenth of December each year, and closely aligns with the Kingdom’s interest in developing the culture and arts sector within the Saudi Vision 2030, as the Kingdom is a founding and supportive member of the United Nations Organization The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in addition to the Kingdom winning a seat on the UNESCO Executive Board in the November 2019 elections.
It is noteworthy that the King Salman International Complex for the Arabic Language was established by a decision of the Council of Ministers, and it includes major projects within the Human Capacity Development Program – one of the programs of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 – aimed at strengthening, spreading and protecting the role of the Arabic language regionally and globally. The complex undertakes multiple tasks related to serving the Arabic language, including maintaining its integrity, supporting it verbally and writing, examining its eloquence, origins, methods, measurements, vocabulary and rules, and facilitating its learning inside and outside the Kingdom to keep pace with changes in all fields.
The complex seeks to be a global reference in the fields of the Arabic language and its applications by publishing research and books specialized in the Arabic language, Arabic language tests and standards, artificial intelligence in the Arabic language, conferences and exhibitions, blogs and dictionaries, Arabic language learning centers, and media campaigns that enhance the value of the Arabic language and support the enrichment of Arabic language and Arabic content.
The complex also works on spreading the Arabic language, following up on the accuracy of its uses in various fields, reviving its heritage, studying, investigating, and publishing, in addition to unifying the scientific reference internally regarding the Arabic language and its sciences and working to achieve this externally.
