King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language Concludes Seminar on the Role of Films in Enhancing the Arabic Language

King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language (KSGAAL) concluded on Wednesday a panel discussion titled Enhancing the Arabic Language through Filmmaking. The event, hosted at KSGAAL Riyadh headquarters in collaboration with the Saudi Film Commission, brought together academics, experts, linguistic institutions, and film and cinema professionals.
KSGAAL Secretary-General, Professor Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Washmi, stated: “This seminar aims to explore how cinematography can be leveraged to enhance and serve the Arabic language and highlight its civilizational, scientific, and cultural contributions and potential through various methods.  In line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030’s Human Capability Development Program, the goal is to achieve excellence and creativity by encouraging filmmakers to use their art to support Arabic content, leveraging the deep influence of films on society and on non-Arabic-speaking audiences.”
Participants, including linguists and film industry experts, discussed five key topics: The Poetic Nature of Classical Arabic in Films, Classical vs. Colloquial: Linguistic Challenges in Arabic Cinema, Subtitles and Dubbing in Films, Stereotypes of the Arabic Language in Films, and Arabic in Films: Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers.
Through organizing the seminar, KSGAAL aims to enhance the prevalence of Arabic content in cinematic productions. It also aims to introduce its vision, strategy, objectives, and projects to various stakeholders and build integrative partnerships with the Saudi Film Commission.
The event concluded with a list of recommendations that will impact the future of the Saudi film industry.
Through its various initiatives, programs, and linguistic projects, KSGAAL aims to preserve the integrity and identity of the Arabic language, support its use in spoken and written forms, and facilitate its teaching and learning inside and outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
