His Highness the Minister of Culture appoints Dr. Al-Washmi as Secretary of the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language
His Highness Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language, issued a decision appointing Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Washmi as Secretary-General of the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language, to undertake the implementation of the academy’s vision in serving the Arabic language and supporting its modern linguistic applications.
Dr. Al-Washmi has great and long experience in teaching Arabic and managing its centers, as he previously held the position of Secretary-General of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Center for Arabic Language Service, and in an earlier period he headed the Literary Club in Riyadh, and was a member of several cultural, media and literary committees. He also founded and supervised the activities of the House of Poetry and the First Book Series in the Literary Club in Riyadh, in addition to his participation in many cultural and literary events and poetry evenings inside and outside the Kingdom. Al-Washmi holds a PhD in Rhetoric and Literary Criticism from the Department of Rhetoric, Criticism and Curriculum of Islamic Literature at the College of Arabic Language at Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University.
It is noteworthy that the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language was established by a decision of the Council of Ministers, and it is one of the initiatives of the Ministry of Culture aimed at strengthening the role of the Arabic language regionally and globally, and its dissemination and protection. The academy will undertake multiple tasks related to the Arabic language service, including maintaining the integrity of the Arabic language and supporting it verbally and in writing, examining its eloquence, origins, methods, vocabulary, and grammar; to facilitate its teaching inside and outside the Kingdom; and to keep pace with changes in all fields.
The academy will also work on spreading the Arabic language, following up on the soundness of its uses in various fields, reviving its heritage in study, editing and publication, in addition to unifying the scientific authority internally with regard to the Arabic language and its sciences, and working to achieve this externally. Furthermore, to taking care of achieving and publishing studies, research, and linguistic references, and encouraging scholars, researchers and specialists in the Arabic language.
