King Salman Academy, SDAIA Sign MoU to Enrich AI Arabic Content

Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) and King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language have signed a memorandum of understanding to enrich the Arabic content in the data and AI fields and support research, application and capabilities relevant to AI and the Arabic language.

 The MoU was co-signed by CEO of the National Center for AI Dr. Majed bin Mohammad Al-Tuwaijri, on behalf of SDAIA, and King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language Acting Secretary General Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Washmi.

 The memorandum aims at developing a general framework for cooperation activities between the Authority and Academy in joint fields, where both sides will cooperate in several projects, including: dictionaries and thesauruses, and conducting scientific research on the uses of data and AI to serve the Arabic language and its applications.

 The deal also includes joint action to develop innovative applications with the use of data technologies and AI to support the Arabic language, develop capabilities through cooperation in organizing events and tournaments on developing AI solutions in the Arabic language, such as hackathon, periodic meetings, open-sources programs, in addition to cooperation to build comprehensive databases for the Arabic language, its applications, tools and semantic indications, means to develop it technologically, and work to establish an AI center specialized in the Arabic language and developing it through cooperating in building ideas and envisions that can contribute to supporting the Academy’s efforts in establishing this center.

Dr. Al-Tuwaijri explained that the Authority is working to employ artificial intelligence to support the efforts of the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language by harnessing technology and providing innovative solutions in the field of the Arabic language, noting that this cooperation comes within the framework of the unlimited support of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) to support the efforts made by the Authority to implement the national strategy for artificial intelligence, both at the level of research, innovation, development of national cadres, and raising the level of awareness; to achieve global leadership in this field and to support the objectives of Vision 2030.

Moreover, the Secretary-General in charge of the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language indicated that this cooperation comes within the goals and vision of the Academy in taking care of the vocabulary and structures of the Arabic language and developing it, and inventing various ways to enrich it, in accordance with the national authority that the Academy represents in the field of the Arabic language and its global vision. It is also in line with the aspirations of linguists and those interested in the Arabic language in institutional work with substantial bodies, and to enable the Arabic language and its culture and circulation in accordance with the highest standards. At the head of these bodies is SADIA, with its high-value authority in the field of artificial intelligence, and the presence it achieves in support of the Arabic language and its use.”
