Monitoring and Studying Language Policies:

In pursuit of a well-informed understanding of the linguistic reality locally, regionally, and globally, the academy has undertaken several projects related to language policies. These include the Language Policies in the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries Project, the Language Policies in Arab Countries Project, and the Language Policies in the World Project. The idea behind these projects is to collect, analyze, classify, digitize, and publish language policies in order to better understand the current linguistic situation and anticipate future trends. The academy is building a comprehensive data system on language policies that will be accessible to researchers, stakeholders, and policymakers, and be adaptable for further development and sustainability.
The project is of great importance both theoretically and practically, summarized by the following objectives:

•    Raise awareness of the importance of language policies, which include regulations, explicit systems, and their main channels, and promote the importance of reinforcing the systemic presence of languages and its impact on the lived linguistic reality among the public, decision-makers, and specialists.
•    Provide a data system on language policies and regulations for researchers, specialists, language policy stakeholders, and decision-makers, facilitating access to aspects related to explicit, systematic language policies and creating a foundational database for future work and development in various directions.
•    Facilitate coordination and integration between countries in this regard.
•    Identify the challenges faced by language policy in drafting or implementing these policies and highlight the factors influencing their effectiveness.
