King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language Launches the “Energy Terminology Dictionary” in Collaboration with the Ministry of Energy
King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language (KSGAAL), in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and its affiliated entities, has launched the Energy Terminology Dictionary in Arabic. The initiative aims to provide key linguistic and technical resources for professionals and specialists across the energy sector, featuring the most commonly used terms in all fields of energy.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Washmi, Secretary-General of KSGAAL, expressed his appreciation for the support and guidance of HH Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He also commended the ongoing collaboration between KSGAAL and the Ministry of Energy, which continues to strengthen the role of the Arabic language regionally and internationally.
Dr. Al-Washmi explained that the dictionary encompasses the most widely used energy-related terminology across various subfields and seeks to establish a unified, reliable linguistic reference for the sector. Its goals include standardizing Arabic energy terminology across all forms of content, enriching the Arabic language with newly introduced technical terms, and producing an integrated, comprehensive dictionary that aligns with the objectives of the Human Capability Development Program, one of the key programs under Saudi Vision 2030.
The first edition of the Energy Terminology Dictionary contains more than 1,500 terms, organized into eight main categories: petroleum and gas, atomic and nuclear energy, sustainability, common abbreviations, electricity, renewable energy, units of measurement, and the names of institutions and initiatives.
The Saudi energy ecosystem comprises several key organizations, including the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, the Water and Electricity Regulatory Authority, the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center, the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission, the Executive Committee for the Governance of Energy and Water Product Prices, the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC), the National Committee for the Clean Development Mechanism, the Ministerial Committee for the Restructuring of the Electricity Sector, the Saudi Electricity Company, and the Oil Demand Sustainability Program.
The dictionary is designed to serve as a comprehensive reference for researchers and professionals in the energy sector, providing Arabic and English equivalents for specialized technical terms. It offers several user-friendly features, including an interactive digital interface, a verified and reliable source of information, and alphabetical listings in both Arabic and English covering all branches of the energy field.
Through its diverse linguistic initiatives, programs, and projects, the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language continues to uphold the integrity and identity of the Arabic language, support its use in both speech and writing, and facilitate its teaching and learning within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and beyond.
